Was involved in social
activities of the Young Mizo Association (Y.M.A.), an apex
body of the Mizo people at the local level; was first
Executive Secretary, People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL),
Mizoram, 1984; was Chairman, Kargil Martyrs' Fund Raising
Committee formed by some journalists during the Kargil war;
was Member, Kargil Relief Committee formed by the Government
of Mizoram; was Editor, Senhri, a local weekly, for five
years; Editor, Hruaitu Arsi, the M.N.F. party official

Was a revolutionary Mizo
student leader; was arrested and jailed three times for his
activities as a student leader to bring a peaceful solution
to the insurgency problem in Mizoram; could not complete
Masters Degree due to his arrest and LL.B. due to his
involvement in the Mizo peace process in 1986 appointed as,
(i) Executive Member, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (M.Z.P.) or Mizo
Students' Federation , 1978; President, M.Z.P., 1983 for
four consecutive years; elected Secretary, North East Region
Students' Union (NERSU), 1979-83; Founder Chairman,
Students' Joint Action Committee (SJAC) of Mizoram formed by
all student bodies in 7 July 1985 till its dissolution in
1986, to bring peace in Mizoram; was enrolled as member of
the underground Mizo National Front (M.N.F.) in 1982 when
the government ordered a crackdown on student leaders; acted
as intermediary between the M.N.F. leadership and the
Government of India whenever a deadlock marred the
negotiations; was present when the Mizo Peace Accord was
finally signed on the night of 30 June 1986 in New Delhi by
Shri Laldenga, the late MNF leader, Shri R.D.Pradhan, the
then Union Home Secretary, on behalf of the Union Government
and Shri Lalkhama, the then Chief Secretary of Mizoram;
joined the MNF after it was recognized as a political party
in 1986; Assistant Secretary, MNF, 1986; General Secretary,
Mizo National Youth Front (Youth Wing of the MNF party),
1986; unsuccessfully contested Mizoram Assembly elections in
1987; was elected member, Ramthar Veng Village Council for
two terms; Secretary, (i) MNF, (ii) Political Affairs
Committee, MNF and (iii) Chhimtuipui Affairs Committee;
appointed as member, (i) State Legal Services Authority,
Mizoram and (ii) Aizawl District Consumer Dispute Redressal
Forum since 2001; elected as the first Member of Parliament
(Rajya Sabha) belonging to the MNF party
